Laser Tattoo Removal
How does laser remove tattoos?
Laser emits sound and light which breaks down the pigment of a tattoo. In turn the body’s immune system can remove the smaller colored particles more readily. Fading happens over the two months following the laser treatment.
What is involved in laser tattoo removal?
The tattoo is cleansed, “frozen” with topical or local anaesthetic and then treated using a Q switch tattoo removal specific laser. The area is then dressed with topical antibiotic and gauze.
Who performs the treatments?
Dr Marianna Switchuk, who is a licensed medical doctor, does the treatment. She injects the local anaesthetic and lasers the tattoo.
What colors can be effectively treated?
The easiest colors to laser are black and red. Blue and green are very challenging.
How long does the treatment take?
Most laser treatments are quick and easy and of course depends on the size of the tattoo. Most removal procedures are less than ½ hour in duration.
Does the treatment hurt?
Laser tattoo removal is painful without topical or local anaesthetic. For this reason, we choose to treat our clients with anaesthetic.
How do I treat the tattoo after it has been lasered?
The area should be treated like a mild burn. It should be protected and guarded against infection. Clients are given full post treatment instructions and are welcome to have their treatment area assessed should infection happen.
How many treatments do I need?
This depends on the age of the tattoo, the colors and how heavy the ink was applied. Generally, tattoos need 10 treatments done a minimum of 2 months apart. More frequent treatments do not increase removal as the pigment is removed by the immune system.
How much does it cost to remove a tattoo?
The cost depends on the size of the tattoo. We offer no obligation consultations.
